In today’s article, a Man United fan will join me for a match preview of Monday’s game. Many thanks to Matt Rush, who discussed his points of view on his team and shared a couple of opinions regarding Southampton.

Let’s start with my opinions on the upcoming match: Man United vs Saints.
Southampton is in excellent form at the moment, watching the team play is exciting because there is a good feeling we might actually win most of the time. Since the return, Ralph’s side has usually dominated and the football Saints play is great: the amount of chances created during the matches, the shots on target, really show their improvement since earlier this season, when every fan was scared the club might get relegated. Now there’s even a slight possibility that Southampton might end up playing in the Europa League next season! Since the Premier League has returned, Saints have shown an impressive performance in most of the matches, winning their first game back against Norwich, thrashing Watford and surprisingly beating Man City thanks to Ché Adams first goal for the club (which turned out to be the longest-range finish of this Premier League season).
The team played well during their last match against Everton, they managed to dominate against the hosts, finding the net thanks to Danny Ings’ clever skill, but conceding to Richarlison’s fabulous finish. “I think we could have killed the game in the first half with a little more clinical finishing, we hit the post, the penalty and everything” is what Ralph had to say.
With only four matches left, Saints need to win against Man United to still be part of the battle for 6th place (Euro League qualification), but a draw would be excellent to achieve. Southampton could be the team to end Solskjær’s unbeaten run with the Red Devils. A player for Saints to look out is Anthony Martial, who has been in great form since the return, as he scored 4 goals in his last 5 Premier League games (same as Danny Ings).

That’s all to say for Southampton, let’s hear from Matt Rush!
Both teams have seen a resurgence in form since lockdown. United have played 5, won 4, drawn 1. They have not lost a game since the 22nd of January vs Burnley at home. They are currently 16 games unbeaten. Southampton has also been on an impressive run of form, beating Man City and drawing at Everton. The Saints played 5, won 3, drawn 1, lost 1. This game has always been a good game to watch, especially now with Danny Ings scoring 4 goals in his last 5 games. Ings also has 19 goals so far the season showing why he is still a potent striker upfront. Southampton are dangerous since their win vs City. They have renewed vigour under Ralph Hasenhuttl, you can see Southampton are organised at the back and effective upfront, with quick wingers. Key men in this game for them will be Danny Ings, Nathan Redmond, James Ward-Prowse.
United must be cautious but confident. Mason Greenwood is the new rising star at the club. He has the ability to use both feet and shoot from distance. Ole Gunnar Solskjær has turned the club around since the introduction of Bruno Fernandes at the end of January. Both Fernandes and Greenwood should start.
This game could go either way. United’s winning streak will come to an end at some point. In the first 20 minutes against Villa, we were lacklustre and very nearly conceded. Southampton will be up for this game, they have the strike force to hurt united. My prediction for the game: it will be close but I still expect United to win at Old Trafford, (hopefully 😊)
by 3-2.
