Talented 16-year-old winger Oliver Newman has been attracting interest from several Premier League clubs over the past season. It is my understanding Southampton are one of them.
Newman has caught the eye with his performances in the Norwich City academy, earning call-ups to both Wales and England’s youth teams. He previously played for Burnell Swallows, Exning, and Newmarket Town before joining the Canaries. Due to his dual eligibility, he can represent either country until he reaches senior level at age 21. "Both countries are very encouraging because the more experience of international football I get at this age, the better it is for me as a player," said the highly-rated youngster in an interview with Suffolk News following his recent England U16 call-up.
This season, Newman made his debut for Norwich’s U18 side in a league match against Fulham and earned an impressive 10 international caps. During the 23/24 campaign, he notably played three games in five days for Wales U16, earning a Man of the Match award in one of them. His time at the Canaries is set to come to an end however, as the player believes he needs a new challenge.
Recently, Oliver Newman and his camp visited Southampton's club facilities and were "very impressed." With an official announcement expected soon, and with key academy players Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez and Harrison Miles departing, Saints could be on the verge of securing a super talent in Newman.
