Sadio Mané – UEFA Team of the Year (2019)

The Senegalese National Team winger played 2 seasons at Southampton, making 75 appearances and scoring 25 goals for the club. An important aspect of his style of play was his fast pace and his skillful dribbling. He played an important role at the club, helping frequently spur Saints to victory. A very important match he played was “Saints 6-1 Villa”, where he scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in less than 3 minutes. In June 2016, he joined Liverpool for a fee of £34 million.


James Beattie – Southampton FC Player of the Season (1999, 2003)

The English attacker played 7 seasons at the club, making 215 appearances and scoring 71 goals in a Saints shirt. He helped Saints a lot in his first season at the club, during Southampton’s difficult time he helped them avoid relegation. The next season he also managed to achieve the record of scoring 10 goals in 10 games, helping Saints once again secure a Premier League spot for the season after. An important match he played in was the 2003 FA Cup final, when Saints were unfortunately beaten by Arsenal even though they played very well during that game. In January 2005, Beattie joined Everton for a fee of £6 million.


Danny Wallace – MOTD Goal of the Season (1983-84)

The loyal English National Team winger played 9 seasons at Southampton, making 253 appearances and scoring 64 goals. He played alongside his two brothers (they were known as “The Wallace Brothers”) during his time with Saints. A very important match he played in was “Saints 4-1 Manchester United”, where he helped Southampton triumph against the scrappy devils, scoring the first goal which gave Saints the confidence to score another 3. He left the club in 1989 to join Manchester United for a fee of £1.2 million, the record fee at that time for a Southampton player.


Terry Paine MBE – FIFA World Cup Winner (1966)

The loyal English National Team attacker played 17 seasons at Southampton, making 713 appearances and scoring 160 goals. He made his debut for the club at only 17 years of age, impressing the crowd with his skills and dribbles. A great match he was part of was the famous victory at the Dell against Wolverhampton Wanderers, when the crowd was stunned by the amazing performance of every player. Saints scored 9 goals during the match and conceded 2, with Terry Paine scoring the first two and the 7 others coming from O’Brien, Chivers and Sydenham. He left the club in 1974, when he joined Hereford United as player-coach.
