Financial Crisis, Transfer Rumors & more!

Welcome back Saints fans! There has been some serious news for Southampton: the club is going to risk losing £100 million in the summer, due to the coronavirus pandemic, and most importantly, they will have to sell their best players to cover the debt. I don't actually know how much truth there is in this, but it looks very possible.

There have been transfer rumors since January that Tottenham was eyeing the Saints top goal-scorer, Danny Ings. Lots of football sources have said that this transfer might be more likely to happen, considering Southampton FC’s money crisis. I think this is a total fake news. Danny Ings was born in Southampton and has played for two top clubs: Liverpool FC and Burnley FC. He had his big move already, and now I think he might be staying at Southampton until the end of his career and play for the team he’s always dreamt of being part of.

There is another transfer rumor though, that is highly likely to happen, and this one involves the team captain, Pierre Emile Højbjerg. The teams interested in buying him are two: Tottenham and Everton. The reason this transfer is very likely to happen is not only because the club is losing money and it’s forced in selling the best players, but also because Højbjerg, sooner or later, was already planning of leaving the club. “I want to play at an even higher level than I am currently” he said, “I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”

Ralph Hassenhuttl, the Southampton boss, is already eyeing a replacement for Højbjerg, to cover up the hole he is going to leave in midfield if he departures St Mary’s Stadium. Olivier Ntcham, midfielder for Celtic FC, is the signing Ralph wants to complete as soon as possible. The U20 French International has impressed Ralph in the last couple of months, with his 31 appearances for the club (including 6 goals). Celtic has informed all the teams interested in their player that he will cost £4.5 million.

Southampton FC will have to spend their money extremely wisely, keeping in mind they might go through a huge financial crisis. They hopefully have enough money for two signings (a midfielder and a defender), which they really need to strengthen the team up a bit. If they weren’t to have enough money to sign two new players, I think the owner of the club, Gao Jisheng, even if he was to put the club up for sale, should invest some of his money in Southampton (to keep the club performing, but at the same time taking a risk).
